A NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM MINISTER IN THE PRIME MINISTER’S DEPARTMENT, YB PUAN HAJAH NANCY SHUKRI
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
As time passes, little did we realise that we are already approaching the end of 2014. This year was one of the most challenging years for all of us. Together we grieved over the heart-rending loss of flight MH370 followed by the painful tragedy that occurred with flight MH17. But somehow, through pain, we survived, and gained new strength by learning the true meaning of perseverance and patience.
Today, we are being tested again with the country’s worst floods in 30 years, displacing more than 200,000 victims. The disaster however brings us together where we have seen Malaysians stand united offering aids for victims.
Just few days after that, we were also shocked and saddened by the disappearance of Air Asia Indonesia flight QZ8501 carrying 155 passengers and crew including 1 Malaysian. Again, we stand together, united in grief and ready to help in whatever way we could. It is indeed inspiring to see how we are working together in these difficult times.
Looking back, we also faced issues of solidarity that challenged the level of tolerance and respect among ourselves. These vital elements of harmony, which forms the very backbone to our peaceful and serenity environment, were being propagated by those who purposely wish to create racial disharmony among Malaysians that could have caused tension in the plural society.
Issues relating to Sedition Act and National Harmony Act were raised that created heated debates among our fellow citizens. Our honourable Prime Minister, in his attempt to protect all Malaysians from these irresponsible quarters whom have no respect for issues surrounding sensitivities among racial groups and religion, decided not just to retain the Sedition Act but also strengthened it to ensure that there was no conflict between the various races and religion in the country. Precisely, this move indicates that our Government listens well when the grassroots has spoken.
And as the Minister in charge of law, it is my hope to see that peace and harmony is maintained and nurtured among Malaysians, from all walks of life. We should protect our Malaysians who love harmony from any negative sentiments that can threaten or undermine the unity of the people.
To draw a close to 2014 and welcome 2015, it is with high hopes that the ‘Outreach Programs’ that we will be organizing throughout 2015 can further instill and strengthen the spirit of loyalty among the people to the country we all love and share.
While we are still in the Christmas mood, I urge Malaysians of all races and religion to preserve the harmony and love among humanity as this is the basis of the true meaning of life to walk the earth. We need each other to survive and co exists.
The phenomenon on mother nature that caused devastating natural disasters which struck our country including flood disaster as well as the catastrophic day in Cameron Highlands, the tragedies of flight MH370 and MH17 and the missing QZ8501 has proven how vulnerable we are as human beings. Not only that, it shows that mankind needs all the love and support of a community to motivate them to move further on living.
To achieve this and to make life worth living, we have to live in harmony, peace, tolerance and oneness. Apart from that, we also have to be responsible for our action because whatever we are doing now, is for the future of our next generation.
From here on, let us all together welcome 2015 with a deeper meaning of respect and compassion so that we can live without prejudice towards one another. Let us all strive for ourselves, our family, our society and Our Malaysia.
With that I wish all Malaysians a very Happy New Year 2015!
