PUTRAJAYA, 10 Oktober 2015 – Human Resource Department of Legal Affairs Division had organized lecture titled “Procedure of Zakat through Income by Payroll Deductions for Muslim Government Servant”. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Mohd Jasri Mohd Nazar, Manager of Customer Service Unit, Zakat Collection Centre.

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is obligatory on every Muslim who fulfill other conditions. The other pillar is Shahada, prayer, fasting and pilgrimage to Mecca. Zakat is obligatory on the Muslims who are eligible to help groups in need of assistance. Zakat is obliged to start in the second year of Hijrah.

Politically and maslahah, zakat is a catalyst for the economy of the Muslims. Rules and laws set by the government or have known it, is to protect the rights and interests of the charity. Although in terms of legislation, distribute zakat on their own without any government involvement is legitimate if distributed to eligible recipients, but the act of breaking the rules and laws of the government in the matter of goodness is sin, because in Islam obedient and loyal to the government or those entrusted with authority in the matter of goodness is mandatory.

It is estimated that a total of 100 officers and staff of The Legal Affairs Division, Legal Aid Department and Insolvency Department of Malaysia attended the talk.
