Public Forum Of Reform Laws Of Malaysia (JPUUM) Series 1 |
KUCHING, 16 MAY 2015 - Legal Affairs Division of Prime Minister's Office as the secretariat to the Committee for Legal Reform (JPUUM) organized a Public Forum Series 1 JPUUM in Sarawak State Legislative Assembly in collaboration with relevant agencies, namely, Sarawak Chief Minister's Department, the Department of National Unity and Integration Department of the State Attorney General Sarawak, Sarawak Branch National Civics Bureau and The Advocates' Association of Sarawak.
The main purpose of the organization of the Public Forum is to create a space for people to interact face to face with the authorities through discussion and sharing of ideas on a legal topic in the country.
Accordingly, the title of which was discussed at the forum series 1 is "formulating Harmony Bill: What Should Be In? 'By competent expert panel, which YBrs. Mr Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid, Deputy General Counsel of State, Hon. Reduction Dato 'Paduka Haji Ariffin Abang Haji Bohan, Solicitor Advocate, YBrs. Mr. Leonard Shim, President Advocates' Association of Sarawak and YBrs. Mr Ganesan Letchumanan, Director General of the Department of National Unity and Integration as a moderator. The program was attended by representatives of ministries / departments, private agencies, higher education institutions and schools, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and representatives of communities around the city of Kuching.
During his opening speech, the Honourable Nancy Shukri Hajjah, Minister in the Prime Minister has stated that this forum allows the Department of National Unity and Integration approach of society to the idea to create a special law on national harmony, what should be and what should not be included into it, if the law is to be held soon.
JPUUM will organize more such programs with welcoming more parties or agencies to come forward to support and collaborate in the process of engagement related legal reforms.
