THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF THE NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS ACTION PLAN (NHRAP)

The Legal Affairs Division, Prime Minister’s Department organized the Launching of the National Human Rights Action Plan (NHRAP) at the Perdana Putra Building, Putrajaya on 1 Mac 2018. The NHRAP was launched by the Right Hon. Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

Also present at the event were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said and Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan, Attorney-General, Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali, Public Service Director-General Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman, Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail and the Director General of the Legal Affairs Division, Datuk Jalil bin Marzuki.

The Right. Hon. Prime Minister said that the NHRAP is developed specifically to suit the needs of Malaysia. The development of the NHRAP is in accordance with international standards and guidelines set by the United Nations. The Action plan underscores five key thrusts: civil and political rights; economic, social and cultural rights; rights of the vulnerable group; rights of the indigenous and the natives of Sabah and Sarawak; and international obligations. He also said NHRAP is dynamic, flexible and is reviewable on a periodical basis.

According to Dato’ Sri Azalina the NHRAP comprises 83 main human rights issues and outlines 294 detailed action plans to be executed in promoting and safeguarding human rights in Malaysia.

The launching of the NHRAP was attended by 300 representatives from government agencies and NGOs to support the government in monitoring and evaluating the NHRAP and ensuring its effectiveness.
